Ocean Revolution

A series of events sponsored by Save the Waves Coalition and Ocean Revolution

Ocean Revolution Saturday, June 18 at the Catalyst!

The first Ocean Revolution event is coming to Santa Cruz, California, on June 18th, at the Catalyst nightclub. Please join us for a whale of a good time.

Pre-order your tickets here!

There has never been a better time for a conservation-related event that focuses on the ocean and its most enduring sport. Surfing has enjoyed a renaissance in the last few years unrivaled by any other. Once practiced by Hawaiian kings as an ancient ritual, it now enjoys the reputation of a modern extreme sport. While sometimes exhilarating, daring and death-defying, it is also a sport which offers an unparalleled communion with nature. Surfers of the world will unite with ocean-lovers of all backgrounds to raise a collective voice against the destruction of our planet's oceans.

3-7 PM an all-ages event in the Atrium. Environmental booths, t-shirts, and lots of cool ocean stuff. All ages welcome! No Cover Charge! Performances by:

Huna Wai - Santa Cruz Hawaiian music
The Hula School of Santa Cruz
         Island Breeze - Hawaiian Reggae

8PM - Late A benefit concert featuring

The Mermen "one of the most original surf bands..." - Martin Schmidt - www.mermen.net
         The Mother Hips - www.motherhips.com
         Ape - the 8-piece tiki-carving exotica band from San Francisco - www.tikimania/ape.html

The evening's events will include:

  • Live musical entertainment
  • Raffle: donated items from event sponsors
  • Ocean-related film trailers, including Save the Waves' film Lost Jewel of the Atlantic, among others
  • Information tables for Ocean Revolution's participating organizations
  • Ocean Revolution t-shirts and wristbands

Mission:

Ocean Revolution is a celebration of ocean awareness, to raise consciousness, empower youth and share solutions for healthy oceans worldwide.

The ocean provides us all with food, health and fun, however the research is clear. Pollution, over fishing and coastal development are destroying our relationship with the sea. The ocean-loving community will come together for the Ocean Revolution, an event designed to help protect our wonderful marine resources, by supporting three non-profit organizations dedicated to international marine conservation.

Organizations:

Ocean Revolution will benefit the following non-profit organizations:

Ocean Revolution
Save The Waves Coalition
The Surfrider Foundation

Future Events:

The organizations behind Ocean Revolution hope to take the events to cities nationwide, starting on the west coast and moving east. The events will coincide with the release of Lost Jewel of the Atlantic, a film produced by Save the Waves Coalition and directed by Jacob Holcomb. In 2006, Save the Waves hopes to tour the film in Europe, as well as organize Ocean Revolution events that will coincide with the film's screenings. To learn more about the film, visit the Save the Waves website at www.savethewaves.org.
