Top international models from Elite Models Chile have joined forces
with Proplaya and Save the Waves Coalition to produce a beachwear
fashion show to benefit the Chilean surf-environmental movement. On
Wednesday, November 15, top Chilean models will walk the catwalk at
El Subterraneo in Santiago in Roxy, Patagonia and Quiksilver
beachwear to raise funds and create awareness to protect the beaches
and coastline in Chile from pollution and development.
"Moda por el
Mar" will be hosted by two of Chile's best comedians, Gonzalo
"Feito"
and Natalia Bogolasky, and in addition to the fashion show a raffle
and DJ dance party will celebrate Chilean surfers' love for
protecting cold water waves. The goal of the event is to raise funds
and awareness for the incipient "green surfing" environmentalist
movement in Chile.
Save the Waves program director Josh Berry notes,
"Chile is at a crossroads in its coastal evolution - it can still
choose to go green and sustainable, creating a unique model for surf
tourism and enormous economic benefits. Unfortunately, numerous
pollution problems seriously threaten Chile's coastline and through
this event we hope to raise national and international awareness
about what is really going on. Paper mill pollution in the
south, raw
sewage in Pichilemu, and overcrowding in Iquique - the
challenges are
great but with events like this, we're all coming together to
protect
what we love: clean waves and surfing. Everyone donating their time
and effort for this event truly believes in the ocean and our power
to protect it. I am truly awed at how we've all come together,
working overtime and for free, to make this fashion benefit happen."
Honda Motors has donated a scooter to raffle off during the event,
and wetsuits, clothing, original art and surfboards will also be
raffled. All proceeds and ticket sales from the event will be
donated
to the ocean non-profit organizations Proplaya and Save the Waves
Coalition. |
